Failure is the state of not meeting a desirable or intended objective. It is inevitable in the learning process. Failure in schools is a common issue in the society today. Here are few tips that may help overcome failure as a student.
After you must have recovered from the shock of disappointment, work on accepting what has happened to you. It will be harder to move on if you blame others or yourself. Pretend like what has happened never happened, the cause and it’s effects.
WRITE IT DOWN
Try writing to put your excessive thinking to rest. Getting it out of your head and putting it into writing gives you some relief from thinking.
TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT IT
If writing about the situation or experience is not helpful, try talking to someone about it. Talk to a trusted friend, a counselor or a trusted family member, they can help you move past denial.
STOP RUMINATING OVER THE FAILURE
Ruminating over failure amplifies negativity, instead of ruminating, think of a way of doing things differently as against the initial way which led to failure. Failure gives room for trying again. Thinking increases negativity put your mind to rest and embrace positivity.
ADDRESS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE
What is the cause? And the possibility of preventing it from happening again. Think about what you could have done instead and their outcomes. If you have failed a course, meet with your lecturer to discuss where you missed it. Find some ideas of where you may have failed with questions for further improvement.
SET GOALS THAT ARE REALISTIC
After you might have worked through the causes of past failure, work on setting realistic goals for the future. What can you do or what action can you take to make success possible? What would you like to see happen next? Set goals you need to make success possible.
PRACTICE MENTAL BALANCING
Balance between optimistic and realistic planning by practising mental balancing. Allow yourself to view a total success for few minutes, imagine all the obstacles along the path of success. Envisioning the obstacles toward achieving reasonable goals can make you feel more capable of trashing out fear and make you feel energized.
AVOID REPEATING THE SAME MISTAKE
Change your approach, your new approach should be void of any strategy that may have caused the initial failure. Create a plan that helps avoid repeating the same mistake, create a plan B with a solid back up. While creating a plan B, be optimistic and see from the side of positivity.
After setting a new goal and making a new plan, set out to achieve your goal. Feel free to change your approach. You learn as you go and most importantly, learn to adjust and tweak your approach whether your goal is achieved or you have to try again. It increases your chance of being successful.
The successful ones today failed so many times behind the closed doors, it became a success because they finally opened the door after so many failed attempts.
You are never a failure until you quit, all you just have to do is go over it and try again.
